Dear Cartwheel
Foundation,
I am Franco and I just
turned 11 years old. I am a grade 5 student in Beacon School
Makati.
A
few months ago my teacher Mrs. Francisco told us about are new project
for school. This project was special because we needed to do a
special
action to help our community. So I thought maybe since I like reading I
can give some books for charity. My teacher told me that
Cartwheel
Foundation was building a school with a library in Mindanao.
I wanted to have a book drive so I can add books to their library
and
maybe encourage more kids to read. I called Ms. Kahairan to ask
if I
could donate books but unfortunately I couldn't because they had some
problems with shipping the books. So instead my friend and I
teamed up
together. We thought of what we could do and we came up with a food
sale. We would sell barbecue, popcorn, hotdogs, pizza and juice.
We
had our food sale in school. This was my first time to sell
something
and I must say that it is very exhausting. We were getting
confused
when everyone came to buy during our recess and lunch breaks and only a
few came when classes were going on. My friend and I split our
profit. We earned P14,044 or P7,022 each. My friend gave
his share of
the profit to the Bukas Palad Foundation which is a small school that
teaches poor children and as you know I would gave it to Cartwheel
Foundation. So that’s how I and my friend did it.
In
this activity I learned that helping people are more important than
video games, videos, etc. When you help people you always get a great
feeling that you have done something great not for yourself but for
others. That feeling is important because you'll always remember what
you have done that is good and that makes you feel happier for the rest
of your life.
Your Cartwheel brother : ) ,
Franco A.
P.S. I
am sending you some photos (see attachments) of our sale. I am
the one
in a green Beacon shirt and the other boy is my friend Kevin.
